The conversation you are dreading
Over the last two months you offered Marcus four pieces of work and he said no to all four, saying he is stretched. Each one went to someone else, and the team is getting frustrated. You have not seen his full list of work.
Your goalRaise it without accusing him, make his workload visible, and agree one clear action.

In this morning's client review, two figures on Daniel's slide did not match the source report, and the meeting started twenty minutes late because he was still fixing slides. The client noticed the numbers. You want to raise it today, not save it for the monthly one-to-one.
Your goalGive specific, factual feedback, say what you need next time, and hear his side.

You have done the monthly performance summary yourself for a year. It needs three numbers (monthly sales, total cost, and the biggest risk for next month), one page, with a short recommendation at the bottom, ready by Friday at 5pm. You are handing it to Hafiz for the first time. Last time you delegated something, it came back wrong and you ended up redoing it.
Your goalExplain the goal, what done looks like, the boundaries, and when to escalate.

Sarah asks your team to build an extra dashboard by Friday for a senior meeting. Your team is already full this week, and doing it by Friday means a manual workaround that someone would have to repeat every month.
Your goalShow the cost of the request and offer a better option, instead of a flat yes or no.

Coach instead of giving the answer
Kumar comes to you: a supplier is late, the launch date is at risk, and he asks you to just tell him what to do. You probably know the answer, but you want him to learn to solve it.
Your goalHelp Kumar find his own next step by asking, not telling.

On Thursday the client changed the scope halfway through a project. Priya stayed calm, did not get defensive, and replanned the work with the team. You noticed, but you have not said anything yet.
Your goalGive specific praise for what she did, so she knows exactly what to repeat.

A coach in your corner
A little of my experience. A space for yours.
I am Julee. After 25+ years in the corporate world, I wrote the guide I wish I had when I first became a manager. This is a place to put those ideas into your own words.
Meet The First-Time Manager GuideCan I try it for free?
The example on this page, the quiz and your 4-week plan are free. The full app is in early access. Nothing is charged now; any prices shown are proposed launch prices.
Who is it for?
New managers, people about to lead a team, and experienced leaders who want to practise the conversations that still feel difficult.
Do I need to speak out loud?
Today you type what you would say, and your AI conversation partner replies in writing. Speaking practice is planned.
What happens to what I type?
Practice messages are processed by an AI service to generate replies and feedback. Use fictional details and leave out real names, employers and confidential information. Your streak and progress are saved on your device.
Do I need the book?
No. You can use the app on its own. The First-Time Manager Guide gives you the thinking and scripts; the app gives you a place to rehearse.
How do I get access?
Join the early access list to hear when a place is available. Invited testers receive an access code for the practice room. You can try the example and take the quiz now.
